Meet Sarah

I became a Realtor in September of 2008.  You remember--the month that Lehman Brothers filed bankruptcy? 

 


Most people--including other Realtors--told me I was crazy; the "good old days" of passing the State Exam and immediately graduating to a substantial, almost effortless stream of income were obviously coming to a screeching halt. Property values were in jeopardy. Fear and uncertainty about the economy in general were becoming palpable. However, I have always been a bit stubborn (let's say "persistent;" it sounds better) when it comes to achieving goals I have set for myself, and I had enrolled in pre-licensing and committed to the career change the previous spring.  Also, I have found that tremendous opportunity lies in attempting to accomplish something others have deemed too difficult.  


Through a combination of utilizing the simple, effective techniques I had learned in my initial company training and being in the right place at the right time (the Samuel Goldwyn quote, "The harder I work, the luckier I get" comes to mind), I secured my first listing and sold it within 49 days.  This supported my belief that a career in real estate was still doable.  I immersed myself in my new profession and took advantage of all the resources that were available to me to slowly but surely build a business over the next several years. I felt a natural aptitude for the nature of the work that was required of me to successfully close deals, on both the buyer's side and seller's side.  My strong communication skills and penchant for organizing and analyzing data would come in handy when I was representing a buyer; when presenting an offer to the seller on behalf of a client, I felt almost like an attorney entering a courtroom, armed with the "evidence" of recent comps and irrefutable price-per-square-foot figures. My creative and artistic side would shine when working with sellers; for several days after taking each listing, I would be consumed with taking photographs and designing and editing marketing pieces, determined that my creations would transcend mere exposition ("here is a bedroom, and here is the kitchen") to evoke a particular feeling or sense of the lifestyle that one would experience in the home. I strove to be concise and articulate, making certain that in my photgraphy, there were always at least two or three shots--whether interior or exterior--from the $350,000 house to the single-wide trailer (literally!) that truly captured the essence of what I was marketing--contained in some feature of the home that was innately and undeniably beautiful.
